About the event:
Τhe renowned rhetorical question of Friedrich Hölderlin: what use are poets in times of need, will be the starting point of the presentation of the work of the great German-speaking poet, Paul Celan (1920-1970) who is the essential poet of the Holocaust. The answer lies to the mystical use of language that reveals the inner experience of the poet in contrast to the conventional cultural standards. The analysis of an indicative poem of Celan based on his own poetic manifesto, the infamous Meridian, will reveal a multiplicity of interpretations and their performance. The poem’s materials will be put into action while the poet’s reading is augmented by video art with the relevant symbolization. The performer Iraklis Pantelidakis, with a background in Medicine and Ethics declares himself a poetry lover with the aim to linguistically visualize the poet’s tragic experience.
