The orchestras will present repertoire by Vassilis Papakonstantinou, Epica, Queen, John Lenon, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, as well as new compositions by Avraam Kontos, such as Phoenix's Thrive, which was composed by him inspired by the children of Sistema Cyprus.

The concert is held on the occasion of the World Anti-Drug Day on June 26 under the auspices and support of the Cyprus Police - Drug Law Enforcement Unit.

About Sistema Cyprus

Sistema Cyprus is a social-music orchestra programme established in 2017. Sistema Cyprus offers music education to the children and young people of Cyprus, including migrants, refugees and children and young people with less opportunities, and ensures that these groups are respected, recognised, and included in the society.

Sistema Cyprus is inspired by the El Sistema social action music programme that was first founded in Venezuela in 1975. El Sistema acts as a superb model, reaching children and young people to many of the world’s challenging neighborhoods. El Sistema and other El Sistema inspired programs, like ours, offer free classical music education that gives children and youth with less opportunities all over the world the opportunity for personal development. Sistema Cyprus is focused on the personal development of its participants focusing primarily on empowerment and helping them in reaching their full potential.

Avraam Kontos

Avraam studied vocals, lute, piano lessons and attended classical guitar lessons as his main instrument, taught by Dimitris Regginos. He graduated from the Music School of Nicosia in 2012 and continued his studies in classical guitar at the Birmingham Conservatoire in England. There, he studied alongside Mark Ashford and Mark Eden, attended numerous master-classes with internationally renowned guitarists such as Marcin Dylla, Xuefei Yang, Michael Lewin, Liz Pallet, as well as composers like Andrew Toovey, Michael Walters, and conductors like Danielle Rossina. His inclination towards composition and orchestration led him to participate and be awarded in composition competitions. His musical journey includes live performances and collaborations with acclaimed artists such as Christos Thivaios, Giorgos Dalaras, Dimitris Basis, Konstantinos Giannoudis, Lavrentis Machairitsas, Michalis Hatzigiannis, Mirela Pachou, and more recently (2022-2023), as part of the International Festival of Nicosia, with Alkinoos Ioannidis, Thodoris Tatsos, Sofia Papazoglou, Thodoris Voutsikakis, Lina Nikolakopoulou, and John Vickers. His personal discography so far includes three albums: "Cypriot Love Songs" (2016), "Poetic Nostalgia" (2018), and the album "Psychographia”.
