"Wanderlust" concert by Sistema Cyprus & El Sistema Greece with the support of XM
On Monday, December 23, 2024, at 7:00 pm, Sistema Cyprus and El Sistema Greece will present a distinctive and captivating concert. Sistema Cyprus, in collaboration with XM, will present on stage young musicians from Cyprus and Greece, who will join forces to deliver a musical performance inspired by different cultures and eras. This performance will feature an eclectic repertoire, drawing inspiration from a variety of cultures and historical periods, reflecting the transformative potential of music as a medium for exploration, communication, and social change.

The program will include classical masterpieces such as Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2, and Étincelles, a contemporary work by Cypriot composer Kyriaki Iakovidou. Through this variety of works, the concert will highlight the power of music to bridge cultural gaps, encourage dialogue and cooperation as well as social inclusion.
The concert will be conducted under the artistic direction of Santiago Ossa Alzate, and Zoe Zeniodis, Artistic Director of El Sistema Greece, and Kyriaki Kountouri, conductor of El Sistema Greece. The joint leadership of the three conductors reflects the spirit of cooperation between the two organizations and the shared commitment to music as a means for cultural dialogue and social change.

About Sistema Cyprus
Sistema Cyprus is a social-music orchestra programme established in 2017. Sistema Cyprus offers music education to the children and young people of Cyprus, including migrants, refugees and children and young people with less opportunities, and ensures that these groups are respected, recognised, and included in the society.
Sistema Cyprus is inspired by the El Sistema social action music programme that was first founded in Venezuela in 1975. Through the formation of orchestras and choirs, El Sistema acts as a superb model, reaching children and young people to many of the world’s challenging neighborhoods. El Sistema and other El Sistema inspired programs, like ours, offer free classical music education that gives children and youth with less opportunities all over the world the opportunity for personal development.

About El Sistema Greece
El Sistema Greece is a community music program that provides free access to quality music education to children and young people in Greece. It aims at building an inclusive music community that celebrates diversity and empowers students by developing their music skills and stimulating their independent thinking and agency. Activities are open to all children and are provided in groups for free.
El Sistema Greece, reaches out to children and youth from diverse backgrounds, including those in refugee and asylum seeker facilities, unaccompanied minors shelters and after-school centers, as well as at its primary location in the vibrant multicultural area of Kypseli in Athens.
