As part of the three-day celebration "Taste the music"
Ten leading Cypriot actresses, in collaboration with the lyricist Stavros Stavrou, present for the first time live the "Lullabies of the World", as part of the Nicosia International Festival! Ten traditional lullabies from an equal number of countries of the planet, adapted in Greek, that promise to travel us melodically to the sunny paths of childhood.

Cyprus Symphony Orchestra
As part of the three-day celebration "Tastes the music"
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra participates in the celebrations for the 200 years since the Greek Revolution of 1821 with a program dedicated to the Cypriot national composer Solon Michaelides (1905-1979), as well as the Cypriot national poet Vassilis Michaelides (1849 or 1853-1917). His fellow works will be presented: Cantata Eleftheroi Poliorkimenoi for soprano and baritone (poetry: Dionysios Solomos), the Ballet "Nafsika" from the opera Odysseus, the songs "Your eyes" (poetry: Nikos Kranidiotis) and "My Kerenia" (poetry: Kypros Chrysanthis) for soprano and orchestra orchestrated by Mikis Michaelides, "The humble’s prayer" (poetry: Zacharias Papantoniou) and "Aigia i kotsini" (Cypriot pastoral) for baritone and orchestra, as well as the orchestral Hymn of the Republic of Cyprus.

CYPROPHONIA 3 - TRIBUTE TO SOLON MICHAELIDES AND VASILIS MICHAELIDES

About the event:

The CySO participates in the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution with a programme dedicated to the Cypriot national composer Solon Michaelides (1905-1979), as well as to the Cypriot national poet Vasilis Michaelides (1849 or 1853-1917).
The concert will include the following works by Solon Michaelides: Cantata The Free Besieged (poetry: Dionysios Solomos) for soprano and baritone, the Ballet “Nafsika” from the opera Ulysses, the songs “Your eyes” (poetry: Nikos Kranidiotis) and “My Keryneia” (poetry: Kypros Chrysanthis) for soprano and orchestra, orchestrated by Mikis Michaelides, “The prayer of the humble one” (poetry: Zacharias Papantoniou) and “Aigia i kotchini” (Cypriot pastoral song) for baritone and orchestra, as well as the Cypriot National Anthem for orchestra. CYBC’s historic video-recording from 1975 of «Romiosyni» (“The Greek race”) by Vasilis Michaelides, set into music for mixed choir by Solon Michaelides, with the composer conducting the “Aris” Choir of Limassol will be also be shown during the event.
Excerpts from Vasilis Michaelides’ poem “The 9th July 1821” will be read as part of the event.

About the event:

"Transverse orientation: to maintain a constant angle to a distant light source for orientation". The second world co-production of the Onassis Stegi and the genius, international Greek choreographer orients us towards a source of light, giving us the impetus to balance so as not to get lost. Dimitris Papaioannou's new work is coming to the Nicosia International Festival for its panhellenic premiere, after a successful series of performances in Prague, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, and London.

The Director of the Ballet of the Greek National Opera Konstantinos Rigos choreographs four unique works by the great composer Manos Hadjidakis. In the "C.N.S. Circle" raging sea is the setting for loss and pain, in "Captain Michael" the night wet wind of the south "falls on women like man and on men like woman", on "Cursed snake" Karagiozis' figure stands like a symbol of timeless folk art, while in "Gioconda Smile" New York becomes the luxurious and noisy background that surrounds the loneliness and despair of modern life. The concert focuses on the wooden sounds of the violin, the viola, the cello, and the marimba, by presenting marimba as a solo instrument through important pieces of its repertoire. Specifically, five works will be presented, offering a variety of techniques and dialogue approaches between the marimba and the string quartet. The program also includes the work Fertility Rites by the Greek composer Christou Hatzi for solo marimba and digital sound. Inspired by the singing technique of Inuit Throat, Fertility Rites is a haunting and rather expressive work. It is considered innovative in the way that it combines live percussive music with digital sound, that is, a combination of prerecorded marimba and Inuit Throat sounds.

Antilogos Theater, in collaboration with director Costas Silvestros, attempt for the first time in the Cypriot theatrical events, to present the emblematic play of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in the Cypriot dialect, Greek and Turkish, starring Izel Seylani and Giorgos Kyriakou. Through this symbolic world drama play, the two dialects merge and become one. The intense need for communication of the two heroes, eliminates every obstacle in their communication, even that of language. The play is a co-production of the Antilogos Theater with the Nicosia Municipal Theater.
