January 2025 concludes at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre with the launch of Eleonora Roussou’s debut album titled "Joy".

The composer poses a question to the audience, "what brings joy in your life?" inviting them to a musical communion of emotions. While the concept of joy varies from person to person, its universal significance is inherently positive, forming the foundation of the album. The compositions draw inspiration from all the elements that bring beauty to life, blending songs and instrumental pieces influenced by jazz, soul, Latin, pop, classical music, and the eastern Mediterranean, with improvisation playing a key role.

The concert will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2025 (20:30), at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.

"Η πιο φάλτσα σοπράνο που πέρασε απ΄ τη γη" αποτελεί ένα απολαυστικό μείγμα χιούμορ, συγκίνησης και μουσικής, που εξυμνεί το ανθεκτικό ανθρώπινο πνεύμα, τη δύναμη της ελπίδας και γιορτάζει το αδάμαστο πνεύμα των ατόμων που αρνούνται να αφήσουν τους περιορισμούς να τους κρατήσουν πίσω.

Το έργο αφορά στην αληθινή ιστορία της κοσμικής Νεοϋορκέζας Φλόρενς Φόστερ Τζένκινς (Florence Foster Jenkins) για πολλούς μίας γυναίκας-συνώνυμο της καλλιτεχνικής φιλοδοξίας και της αυταπάτης. Μία εντελώς «ξεκούρδιστη» σοπράνο, που επιμένει να τραγουδά -γιατί η αγάπη της για τη μουσική είναι τόσο μεγάλη, που όλα τα εμπόδια τα ξεπερνά. Άλλωστε, «η τέχνη δε μπορεί να κυβερνιέται από την περίσκεψη και τη σύνεση, αλλά να προέρχεται από την καρδιά» όπως ισχυρίζεται για να δικαιολογήσει την εμμονή της να «εκτελεί» έργα του κλασικού ρεπερτορίου και κυρίως Μότσαρτ. Τραγουδάει ενστικτωδώς και καμία νότα δε βγαίνει σωστά από το στόμα της. Καταφέρνει να διαστρεβλώνει την παρτιτούρα με τέτοιο τρόπο, ώστε οι ερμηνείες της να είναι για γέλια και για κλάματα. Ζει στον δικό της μικρόκοσμο, πεπεισμένη για τις μουσικές της ικανότητες και πιστεύει ότι όλα τα άσχημα σχόλια δεν είναι τίποτα άλλο από κακεντρέχειες εναντίον της. Έτσι, η «ντίβα του θορύβου» με την όμορφη ψυχή, την ατσαλένια θέληση και την ακλόνητη πίστη για την κατάκτηση του ονείρου της, μετατρέπεται σιγά-σιγά από παρατράγουδο σε φαινόμενο της εποχής.

The Dragoness and the Princess, Pittortos, Trantafyllene, Dkiamantis, and Stachtoula, taken from from the Cypriot fairy tales of Nearchos Clerides, come to life for the final time at the 5th Nicosia International Festival on Sunday, January 19 (at 15:30 and 19:00), at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. Following the success of the performances of "Once Upon a Time", the heroes of Clerides’ Cypriot fairy tales adored by audiences young and old—return for the third and final time at this year’s festival.

Nicosia 2030, candidate for European Capital of Culture, remains faithful to the tradition, myths, and fairy tales of Cyprus. This production highlights the Cypriot dialect and the island’s intangible cultural heritage, inspired by the book "Cypriot Fairy Tales" by Nearchos Clerides. Through Alpha Cyprus' innovative audio podcast "Traditional Fairy Tales" the idea for the performance "Once Upon a Time" was born, with a dramatization by Stavros Stavrou, original music and songs by Kostas Cacoyannis and Pambos Koouzalis, with a live orchestra, animations, puppets, children's choir, immersive sound like in a cinema and all this under the direction of Kleitos Kleitos.
