It all starts with the amazing words of a folk song in the rhythm of "taranta", which the choreographer combined with an equally amazing story: The life experiences of a Cypriot miner, with the aim of expressing the sorrows and deprivations of the miners of our country and the Andalusians Spanish workers who sang "the struggle for survival" in that rhythm.
After deep researching the artist got inspired by the book "Memoirs of a Miner", written by Pantelis Varnava, which eventually became the main reason for bringing this project into life.

The choreographer was deeply touched by the life of the miners (the galleries were their home and grave) their struggle for survival, the risking of their lives and by their fight to claim their rights and enable future generations to prosper.
The images that spring to mind even today are shocking: The pitch-black and unrecognizable faces of those who survived the daily and horrible accidents, emerging like moles from the gallery with their torches, for a single dry piece of bread.
Through contemporary flamenco, Compania Flamenca Filippa wishes to evoke a strong emotion in the audience as far as the life and struggle of the Miners is concerned, honoring Pantelis Varnava and those who fought in order to «emerge from darkness into the light».

*The performance will take place at the Rialto Theater in Limassol (31.03.23) and at the Satiriko Theatro in Nicosia (26.03.23).
