Skevos and his family are in debt to a local loan-shark, and Skevos works hard to repay him. When a strange object tracked by an international intelligence agency, crashes into his field,
inside a U.N. controlled area, his debtor, Pambos, a.k.a. “The Shark”, offers to cut 10% off Skevos’ debt if he takes the object to him. The village goes into tragicomic overload as the young farmer unwisely digs it out, setting off a chain of unexpected events. Narrated with a slight nostalgic note, the film is a hybrid folk tale that blends a tableau of village characters with the portrait of an individual struggling to stand up for himself and make a difference.
“Sunrise in Kimmeria”, won the “Best Cypriot Film” award at the Cyprus Film Days International Festival in 2018.

“I am in love with Cyprus’ rural part of the population and their way of life. I find the straightforwardness of the village folk, and their kind cordiality, all the while strenuously leading their harsh day-to-day routines, immensely inspirational.
I have always wanted to make a film that would portray this humble setting, and somehow rival it to more conventional ways, within the framework of a rudimentary narrative.
The style of the film, and its multifaceted approach, with its messy, peculiar but contemplated shape, is very much like myself. I am indebted to my friends and family for their support, the actors and non-actors that took part in this peripatetic journey of discovery, sometimes even meandering off of the more conventional narrative paths, exploring and embracing the authenticity of the village folk I admire so much”
