Technopolis 20 Classics presents the world-renowned violinist Domenico Nordio and the acclaimed pianist Mikhail Lidsky at the Markideion Theatre, on Friday, 4th of October 2024, at 8pm.

Domenico Nordio has graced the world’s most prestigious stages, from Carnegie Hall to the Barbican Centre, performing with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony and National de France. With a career spanning decades, his artistry and interpretations have earned him international acclaim.

Mikhail Lidsky, a virtuoso pianist from Moscow, has performed around the globe, sharing the stage with major orchestras and collaborating with prestigious artists. Known for his vast repertoire and exquisite interpretations, Lidsky is a sought-after performer and professor at the Moscow State Conservatoire.

The evening’s programme spans a diverse selection of masterpieces, including Respighi’s Four Pieces, a selection from Paganini/Szymanowski’s Capricci, and the elegant Tartiniana Seconda by Dallapiccola. The programme will conclude with Busoni’s Sonata Op. 36a, a profound and expressive work that highlights the talents of these two virtuosos.

DOMENICO NORDIO

Domenico Nordio is one of acclaimed musicians of our time. He has performed in the world's prestigious halls (Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Barbican Center in London and Suntory Hall in Tokyo), with leading orchestras, including London Symphony, National de France, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Istanbul Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra, Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Moscow State Symphony and with conductors such as Flor, Steinberg, Casadesus, Luisi, Lazarev, Aykal.

He is artist in residence of the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi in Milano.

Recent seasons included concerts at St.Petersburg Philharmonic, Bucarest Enescu Philharmonic Hall, Rio de Janeiro Teatro Municipal, Buenos Aires Teatro Colón, Moscow Tchaikovsky Great Hall and Istanbul Zorlu Center. He performed at Amsterdam Concertgebouw (chamber music series), Moscow International House of Music (with Mikhail Lidsky), Auditorium of Milan (with Bartok 2 concerto and the Verdi Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tito Ceccherini), Kiev Philharmonic Great Hall (with the Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra and Roman Kofman), Sala São Paulo of São Paulo (Respighi Concerto conducted by Isaac Karabtchevskij), Mexico City Sala Nezahualcóyotl, Ankara with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (Respighi Concerto) Montevideo with the Montevideo Philharmonic conducted by Alexandros Myrat (Schostakovich 1 at Teatro Solis). Last seasons include also performances, among others, with the “Orchestra Nazionale della RAI” (Casella), the Orchestra Verdi in Milan, the Caracas “Simon Bolivar”, the Bogotà Philharmonic, the Kiev Philharmonic (Brahms), the Kaunas Symphony , Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira and Johann Sebastian Rio.

Very appreciated as chamber music player, Mr. Nordio appears in prestigious Festivals alongside to Misha Maisky, Louis Lortie, Boris Belkin, Giovanni Bellucci, Mikhail Lidsky and Jeffrey Swann. He's also an influential performer of modern music and many composers have dedicated him masterpieces: Semini, Donatoni (Duo for Violin and Viola, premiered at the «Settimana Musicale Senese»), Boccadoro (Cadillac Moon, premiered with the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari Orchestra and recorded live by Rai Trade), Dall'Ongaro (The Red Zone) and Molinelli (Zorn Hoffnung Gesang, premiered during the final concert of the Composing Competition «August 2» with the Teatro Comunale di Bologna Symphony Orchestra).

Mr.Nordio is recording exclusively for Sony Classical. His three CDs include Respighi and Dallapiccola with Muhai Tang and the Parma Filarmonica Toscanini (internationally released in March 2013), Castelnuovo Tedesco and Casella with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Tito Ceccherini (internationally released in January 2015) and Busoni and Malipiero, concerto n.1 and n.2 with the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi di Milano and Tito Ceccherini (internationally released in June 2018).

Pupil of Corrado Romano and Michèle Auclair, born in Venice in 1971, former child prodigy (he gave his first recital at age of ten), at age of sixteen Nordio won the Viotti International Competition in Vercelli with the legendary Yehudi Menuhin as President of the Jury. After the achievements at Paris Thibaud Competition, Viña del Mar Sigall Competition and Marseille Francescatti Competition, the Eurovision Grand Prix obtained in 1988 launched him to the international career: Nordio is the only Italian prizewinner in the history.

Born 1968 in Moscow, Mikhail Lidsky started studying piano at the age of five. In 1975, he was admitted to Gnessin Moscow Specialised Music School (class of Marina Marshak-Young). From 1978 until graduation and later (1987-1992) at Gnessin Russian Academy of Music he studied with Prof. Vladimir Tropp.

At the age of 13 played with orchestra for the first time, at 15 – gave his first recital. While studying, gave many performances in various cities of the USSR as a soloist and chamber music player.

At the Eighth All-Russia Piano Competition (Kislovodsk, 1989) he was awarded 1st prize (joint), prize of Russia's Music Society and a special price for the performance of Prokofiev's 2nd Piano Concerto. Since then, he has never taken part in competitions.

Mikhail Lidsky’s concert career includes numerous appearances in Russia and neighboring countries, as well as Belgium, UK, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Finland, France, Turkey, Taiwan, and Japan.

Mikhail Lidsky’s vast and versatile repertoire encompasses works by J.S. Bach (Concertos, Partitas, etc.), Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart (Concertos, Sonatas, etc.), Beethoven (32 Sonatas, 5 Concertos, Variations, etc.), Schubert (Sonatas, Impromtus, Moments Musicaux, etc.), Schumann (e.g. Kreisleriana, Sonata in F minor, all compositions for piano and orchestra), Chopin, Liszt (12 Transcendental Studies, Sonata in B minor, Concerto No.1, and many other works), Brahms (e.g. Concerto No.2, Haendel and Paganini Variations), Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov. Scriabin (Piano Concerto, solo part in “Prometheus”, Sonatas and many other piano pieces), Medtner (Concerto No.1, sonatas, Fairy-tales, chamber music, etc.), Debussy, Ravel (both Piano Concertos, Gaspard de la Nuit, etc.), Stravinsky, Hindemith (Ludus tonalis), Myaskovsky (all piano sonatas), Prokofiev, Shostakovich, etc.

Mikhail Lidsky performs chamber music with Moscow VirtuosiMozart QuartetDomenico Nordio, and some other famous musicians.

From 2007 on, Mikhail Lidsky has been remaining the only pianist of his generation to undertake annual recital series at Moscow International Music House, having already performed e.g. 32 Beethoven Sonatas, all-Mozart, all-Schubert, all-Schumann and all-Chopin programmes, and four recital Liszt series. These series are being replicated in many cities of Russia. Besides, he is giving numerous appearances as a soloist and chamber music player, e.g. closing Antalya Piano Festival 2010 in Turkey by playing Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto with Moscow Virtuosi led by Vladimir Spivakov, performing Medtner’s First Piano Concerto with Moscow Philharmonic at the Russian Piano Music Festival (Moscow, November 2012) and Prokofiev’s Fifth Piano Concerto with Saint Petersburg Philharmonic led by Alexander Vedernikov (Saint Petersburg, February 2013).

Mikhail Lidsky has released many CDs, of which six have been published by DENON, and three by DECCA (e.g. Brahms’ sonatas for violin/viola and piano recorded with Domenico Nordio). In 2017 he recorded the collection of Nikolay Miaskovsky’s piano sonatas released in 2018 by ‘Moscow Conservatory Records’. His latest release is the studio recording of 32 Beethoven Piano Sonatas (Melodiya, 2023).

From 1996 on, Mikhail Lidsky has been teaching at Moscow State Conservatoire. He had been an assistant of Elisso Virsaladze until 2003, having become a full professor thereupon.
