Royal Opera favourite Bryn Terfel heads the cast for this new production of Donizetti’s comedy of domestic drama across two generations. The witty story of a middle-aged man whose supposed young wife runs rings around him – with her own ulterior romantic purpose in mind – has long delighted and surprised audiences, not least as presented with the sparkle of its music and the virtuoso skill of its performers. Damiano Michieletto’s exhilarating production shows how contemporary the characters still are and how immediate and touching the story remains.

About the event:
Konstantinos has a unique and mesmerising voice that belts out opera, traditional and contemporary genres in a variety of languages including Greek, English, Italian and Spanish. He is known to blow his audiences away with his vocal range and dynamic voice quality. His brother Matthaios’ plays the Pontic lyra (has been called the world’s best performer of this unique and powerful Greek instrument), the violin, laghouto (Greek lute), Turkish oud, bouzouki, guitar, Persian kamancheh, Lorestan kamancheh (Iran), Afghan rubab, as well as the Afghan and the Uzbek ghichaks. Together with seven talented musicians, they will perform "Soul and Body", which is a musical project which blends Greek music with eastern and western influences.

In the past few years, Avant Tout have become widely known to the Cypriot audience, with many concerts across the island, always with their characteristic retro style and the majestic jazz/swing melodies from past eras. The excellent soloist, musician, composer and singer Haig Yazdjian with a group of established world music musicians, collaborate with the Armenian Choir Sourp Asdvadzadzin of the Armenian Church to present a spectrum of Armenian and Greek songs. Τhe acclaimed Neo-Rebetiko group Trio Tekke opens the “World Music/ World Cuisine” mini-festival which marks the end of the 1st Nicosia International Festival. Together with the London-based Anglo-Italian drummer Dave De Rose they will present their forthcoming album. Their sound is enhanced by electric guitar, electric bass, effected tzouras, drums, percussion and some electronics, creating a genre-hopping cocktail of Greek Rebetiko-style tunes infused with Afrobeat, Cumbia, Acid Rock, Psychedelia and Jazz.
