The play’s text is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale The Nightingale. The adaptation brings a fresh, modern perspective, filled with sensitivity and generous doses of humor, resulting in a show that’s both entertaining and thought-provoking. Actors bring the story to life through physical theater techniques, focusing on expressiveness, movement, dance, and voice. With a dynamic pace, intense physicality, and clever dialogues, the Hippo theater group creates a blend of hilarious yet moving moments.
During the performance, there are designated points where children are invited to participate in the storytelling within a safe, welcoming environment. This encourages interaction, emotional engagement, and intellectual reflection.
Key questions explored in the show:
The performance won second prize at the international STRUS festival for children and youth in Lviv, Ukraine, in October 2021. The play’s text is available from Dodoni Publications.
